training from hell

This is a colour experimental for a 14-page swords-and-sorcery story currently languishing in thumbnail form. I'm not very practiced at drawing huge men, but I try.

palette 04
Context: You wouldn't expect it, but that sweet young lady there is actually our resident Training Master From Hell. She can get away with beating her students (victims) half to death because she's also a healer. Those who stick with her programme after the first lesson improve very, very fast.

She wasn't to know that Freon didn't have his basics properly, however. The big angry guy is offering to take him on until he's ready to survive her next lesson.

Poor Freon doesn't know what they're saying, but he definitely caught the word 'pansy' somewhere there.

Edit: My Japanese isn't very good. But it may be better than my Mandarin. D: I hope I haven't made any mistakes.

Another request from a friend.

At this point I kind of freaked out because I couldn't remember which pastel brush I had to use in order to make a crayony line. So I had to try them all one by one until I found it. ;_;

St John's Passion

More uploading of old work while I wrestle with my Adorno and Celan readings. This is the last one, I promise.

st john's passion 7 may 2011

I painted this as an exercise on 7 May 2011 while listening to St John's Passion. There is no direct connection between the music and the picture, except that my mind was wandering to Bach's very powerful rhythms. Painting this took maybe about two or three hours.

Wardrobe post

For those who don't know, I'm into frilly dresses. Nominally the style is called 'Elegant Gothic Lolita', though not all of us are Gothic and the fashion really has nothing to do with that Nabokov book. (As explained here: http://url.thecomicseries.com/comics/first ) And at the moment, the EGL live journal community has a 'wardrobe' theme -- giving all of us vainpots the excuse to take photographs of our frilliest clothes in order to show them off on the Internet. These are the banners I made for myself and my friend Ets.

Both characters are from a comic strip created by me and Ets, which breathed its last in October last year. I'm still very fond of my characters, so I keep raising them from the dead against my better judgement.

For the interested, my frilly closet is here. Enjoy!

More from my archives

...And while I'm at it, I think I'll upload some of the stuff I still like from a few years ago. It's a good way to fill up this blog in a hurry, and there's nothing like resting on one's laurels.

These are e-cards I made for my lecturers in 2010. Mostly the content is specific to the books and poems I had to read for each course.

for dr ang 06
Course title: Romanticism
References: Villette (Bronte), Isabella; or, the Pot of Basil (Keats), Ode to a Nightinggale (more Keats), Vathek (Beckford), Frankenstein (Shelley)
Additions: a book of Japanese fairy tales illustrated by Warwick Goble

for dr nardin
Course title: Women Novelists in 1750 - 1800
References: Little Red Riding Hood. That said, the book wasn't on the course at all. It just so happened that Dr Nardin saw me drawing this in her class and said that she liked it. So I sent her a finished copy.

for dr pan 03
Course title: 18th Century
References: Pamela (Richardson) -- the smarmiest book I'd ever read, and no wonder. How do you write an epistolary novel while you're busy trying to avoid rape?

for dr roy (colour)
Course title: Literature and Psychoanalysis
References: the Turn of the Screw (James)

You can tell that I'm a Literature student. Really.

I'll get on with actually creating more art soonish. This should hold in the meantime.

Powder Rose

In which case, it is probably a good idea for me to actually post something for visitors to look at. I did this picture over Christmas for a friend.

powder rose

This dress is a real dress, except that I replicated the print incorrectly. D: It's name is Powder Rose.

I'm still not used to toggling picture sizes on Blogger. Will experiment for a while.

Hello world

After a four-year hiatus, I'm finally back to blogging. This place will be mostly in aid of art uploads and creative writing, though there should be other things as well. I'm still not sure if I want to be using blogspot, but this will serve for a time.

Clean, empty space. Mmmm.
